Acrylic yarn stands out for its machine-washable nature, water resistance, and exceptional durability, but wool or mohair yarn are really fashion and trendy right now and are also so confortable to wear, you can swap the type of yarn for this pattern if you enjoy this type of yarn. I’m using acrylic yarn because it’s budget-friendly, and everyone can find it at shops all around the world.

How many balls of yarn does it take to make a knitted vest?

The number of balls of yarn needed to make a knitted vest can vary widely depending on several factors, including the size of the vest, the thickness of the yarn, the stitch pattern, and the individual’s tension or gauge.
As a general guideline, most knitting patterns provide an estimate of the required yardage or meterage of yarn for a specific size and style of vest. Yarn labels also typically include information on yardage per ball or skein.
For this pattern vest tutorial I will be using acrylic DK yarn and 400 to 600 gr or 4 to 6 skeins of yarn for sizes up to XL.

– 400gr to 600gr in Red and pink Acrylic DK yarn – https://shrsl.com/3vxib
– 3.5 mm crochet hook

– tapesty needle

Knitting the Panels of your sleeveless Jumper

Start making both middle panels casting on 22 stitches, using waste yarn. Make 4 rows with waste yarn on the beg. in a contrasting color and change to the first color of choice. Make the number of rows for the first color (30), change the color and repeat.

For the last change you will make 6 rows less then the previous changes. Remove from the knitting machine using waste yarn and a tapestry needle.

Making the side sweater panels

After making both middle panels start making the side panels that will be mirrored to shape the arm holes.
Cast on the same number of stitches you used for the middle panels, also using waste yarn and 4 rows.
Start working with the opposite colors you did for the middle panels to make your vest checkered. Work for 30 rows, change the color and work 46 rows .
Start casting off 3 sts on beg. of the panel for the arm hole, then make 2 rows and dec. 1 sts every 2nd row 4 times.

Change the color when you reach the number of total rows for the 2nd square. Change color again and make an extra 6 to 8 rows for the shoulder on the last color change 36 rows for the last color. Cast off using a tapestry needle and waste yarn.

Repeat the same for the next panel, but decreasing at the end of the row.

Seaming the panels of your Vest

After you made all the panels you should have 6. Place them on the right position to start seaming with mattress stitch.
Here is the link for the mattress stitch video on Youtube for reference. Start seaming the front, making sure the arm decreasing is facing outside of the vest. Seam all sides of the panels then seam the shoulders with the graft stitch – video link for youtube.

Making the neck ribbing of your pullover vest

Using the circular needle cast on all stitches of the middle panels on a circular needle and cast on stitches on the side of both side panels, 1st every 2nd knitted row using a new yarn attached to the last loop of the middle panel.
Watch the video tutorial for reference.
After that start making the desired ribbing, for this vest I made 1Knit 1 purl sts for 10 rows (4 cm)

Finishing Touches – arms and bottom ribbing

Using the circular needle cast on stitches on the sides of each arm hole, 2 sts every 3 rows, pull the loops from each knitted row with another yarn thread. After that start making the desired ribbing, for this vest I made 1Knit 1 purl sts for 6 rows (3 cm).

Using the circular needle, place all the stitches bellow the waste yarn 1st row on the needles. Remove the waste yarn and work the same ribbing 1K 1P stitch for 10 rows or as long as desired. On the 1st row, make the last and 1st stitch of each panel together with the next stitch (because they curl to the back of the work after seaming with the mattress stitch). Here if you want your vest to be longer you can make a longer ribbing.

Crafting a vest sweater with the Sentro Knitting Machine is a delightful and rewarding experience.

Enjoy the process, and share the love by showcasing your creations on social media. Happy knitting!
