Can I make an ear flap beanie using a Sentro knitting machine?
Yes, absolutely! The Sentro’s circular knitting mechanism is perfect for making all sorts of beanies, including those with ear flaps. With a few extra steps, you can create stylish ear flaps that add warmth and flair.

What type of yarn is best for an Ear Flap Beanie Pattern for Sentro Knitting Machine?
For this beanie, I recommend using a nice, medium-weight worsted yarn. I find it works best on the Sentro for smooth cranking and even stitches. Plus, since this beanie is a single layer, a thicker yarn like worsted will make it extra warm and cozy—just what you need for those chilly winter days!

Materials You’ll Need

- Scissors
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Pom pom maker

Ear Flap Beanie Pattern for Sentro Knitting Machine Instructions
Start making the Beanie Flaps and a double brim
To create a seamless double brim, start by casting on 45 stitches using waste yarn and knitting 4 rows. Switch to your chosen yarn color and knit 40 rows (30 rows for kids).
Creating the Double Brim (Seam-Free): Now, here’s the trick, crank the machine until the 1st needle is halfway open, then use a crochet hook to grab the back loop of the first stitch from the initial row of the same yarn color.
Place this loop over the current loop on the needle, so both loops sit at the base, and knit the stitch. Repeat this for every stitch across the row. As you progress, the stitches will get tighter, so insert your hook into the next stitch before completing the previous one to make it easier.

Be sure to keep the waste yarn out of the way, as you’ll remove it later. This method creates a smooth double brim with no need for seaming!

When you finish this row, make 1 more row on panel mode.
Pro tip: If you’d like larger flaps, increase the rows as desired.
Make the Beanie Tube
Cast on the 3 empty needles and start working on the tube mode. Crank a total of 30 rows (24 rows for kids) in your preferred color. Feel free to switch colors midway for a color-blocked effect!

To make the color changes I did make :
Row 1 – 4: cream color
Row 5-6: cream/rose
Row 7-17: rose
Row 18-19: rose/brow
Row 20-30: brown

Bind off by carefully removing the stitches from the machine with your tapestry needle using the working yarn tail.
Cinch the Beanie
Pull the tail to cinch and close the Beanie on the opposite side of the beanie flaps.
Finish for the Ear Flaps
Bind off the 3 stitches on the back with a crochet hook and Single Crochet Stitches. To close the opening on the side of each earflap use mattress stitch to join working on the 1st stitch of each side.

Add Ties and Tassels for Extra Style
For added warmth and a snug fit, add braids and tassels or pom poms to the ear flaps. This will give your beanie a classic look and is especially helpful for windy days!

Before you wrap up, consider adding a pom-pom to the top for a fun, cozy touch! I use this tool to make and its super easy and fast!

You can use leftover yarn or purchase a faux fur pom-pom for a professional look.

You can also add Handmade Tags, they will give a very professional look to your Sentro Beanies.
Attach the pom-pom to the top of the beanie using your yarn needle and leftover yarn.
Instructions for the Braids

- Cut two equal strands of yarn, about 43″ or 110cm each and fold them in half.
- Attach the braid to the bottom of each ear flap by passing it through the bottom stitches and making a knot.
- Braid the strands together, knotting each end to secure.
