Step-by-step instructions for a Bucket Hat on a Sentro knitting machine
Step 1: Creating the Hat Body on the Sentro 48
Cast on to work on tube mode and make (52 – 68) child and adults
Alternate colors randomly for a fun patchwork look just by adding a new color in, I like to change every time I make a new row, make half of the rows with scrap yarn and half on a solid color or checkered like I did.

Checkerboard design rows: 2 rows black and white, 2 rows white and black, 3 rows in another color, repeat this 3 x and finish the remaining rows in black to make it easier to cinch.
Bind off using the same yarn, fold in half and cinch both ends, making a knot to secure both together.
Step 2: Knitting the Brim on the Sentro 22
Cast on tube mode to create a brim using waste yarn for 3 rows, change to the solid color of choice and make (120 – 140) rows.
Cast off with a tapestry needle and waste yarn
Fold the tube so both yarn tail stitches match, and bind off using the Kitchener stitch to close the tube as a loop.

Step 3: Assembling the Hat
Attach to the hat with plastic markers to guide the seaming, and seam it using the Graft stitch.

Sew the pieces together using a tapestry needle, making sure the seam is even.
Stretch the beanie before tying the final knot to shape the brim and ensure a perfect fit.
Step 4: Finishing Touches for a Bucket Hat on a Sentro knitting machine
Weave in all loose ends for a polished look.
Add decorative stitches or embellishments if desired.
Steam block lightly to set the shape.
FAQs for a Bucket Hat on a Sentro knitting machine
1. Can I use different types of yarn for this project?
Yes! Just make sure they are of similar weight to ensure your hat will have structure and keep its shape. I highly recommend using Worsted weight #4 yarns. You can also use velvet or chenille yarns for winter hats.
2. How long does it take to make a bucket hat on a Sentro machine?
It will take about 1-2 hours, depending on your knitting speed and seaming experience.
3. Will the brim hold its shape?
Yes! Using a tighter tension on the Sentro 22 and steam blocking helps the brim stay structured.
4. Can I make a reversible bucket hat with this method?
Absolutely! Try a double-layered knit technique for a fun, reversible look. I made mine checkered on the inside, but if you’re a beginner, simple stripes that match the brim work beautifully too!
5. How can I customize my hat?
Try adding stripes, embroidery, or even a cute crochet flower or a star for extra flair!
Conclusion
Making a bucket hat from scrap yarn on a Sentro 48 and Sentro 22 is a fantastic way to repurpose yarn and create something stylish. If you’re new to machine knitting or a seasoned pro, this project is quick, fun, and endlessly customizable.
