DIY Shawl with Sleeves Pattern Sentro Knitting Machine

When it comes to handmade garments, there’s something extra special about creating a piece that’s both functional and stylish. A shawl with sleeves or a sweater shawl is one such project, perfect for staying cozy during cooler months while adding a touch of elegance to your wardrobe.

In this tutorial, I’ll guide you through crafting your very own DIY Shawl with Sleeves Pattern Sentro Knitting Machine or Addi 46 king machine.

What do you call a scarf with sleeves?

A scarf with sleeves is often called a shawl cardigan, sleeved scarf, or wrap sweater. Some people also refer to it as a shrug scarf or a sleeved wrap, depending on its style and fit.

How do you wear a wrapped scarf with sleeves?

To wear a Shawl with Sleeves Pattern Sentro Knitting Machine, simply slip your arms into the sleeves and adjust the wrap so it drapes comfortably over your shoulders. You can wear it open for a casual look, cross the fabric over your chest for a layered effect, or add a belt at the waist for a more tailored style. Shawl with Sleeves Pattern Sentro Knitting Machine is a versatile piece that can be styled effortlessly to suit any occasion.

Materials You’ll Need

To get started, gather the following supplies:

  • Sentro Knitting Machine (48 needles) or Addi 46
  • Yarn: Choose a soft, medium-weight yarn in your preferred color. Acrylic, wool blends, or cotton yarns work well. You will need around 600 m or 650 yards.
  • Tapestry Needle: For sewing the panels together.
  • Scissors: A must-have for trimming yarn.
  • Measuring Tape: To ensure proper dimensions.
  • Stitch Markers: Helpful for keeping track of your work.

Step-by-Step Instructions to make a Shawl with sleeves:

This shawl sweater is made using panels on your circular knitting machine. If you’re not familiar with the panel mode yet, be sure to check out my course! How to make panels on a circular knitting machine!

Before beginning this pattern, take essential measurements. Start at the wrist and wrap the measuring tape halfway around your body. This will give you both the total circumference (when doubled) and help determine the appropriate cuff length and width.

Gauge (10 cm or 4″) = 20 rows x 15 st

After taking all measurements multiply the number of cm x 2 and the number of inches x 5. Let’s say your measurement was 120 cm x 2 (47″ x 5) which will be a total of 240 rows. Because of the stretch of the yarn, I normally reduce a few rows so I would make around 210 rows for each side of my sweater wrap or Shawl with Sleeves Sentro Knitting Machine.

I decided to divide the construction of this Shawl with Sleeves Sentro Knitting Machine to make it easier for beginners and also to have a better idea of sizing before I finish the whole project.

I also started by making the cuffs. I’ll be making the cuffs with 25 cm (10″), but you can make them smaller or longer if you prefer just by making more or fewer rows for the 1st part of this tutorial and readjusting the total number of rows at the end.

Set Up Your Sentro Knitting Machine for panel

  • Secure the Sentro on a stable surface I like using velcro instead of the suction cups.
  • Thread your machine with 33 stitches to start making the cuff using waste yarn make 4 rows.

Knit the Scarf Sweater Cuffs and Body

Change to the working yarn and make 40 rows. Place a marker at the end of the row.

To make the body a little wider we will need to increase stitches, I like to use all stitches I have available leaving only 3 empty needles.

To increase, at the end of each row, starting at row 40, crank the machine for 1 extra needle then the last stitch, casting on 1 extra st., this can only be done at the end of each row.

Repeat this process until you have only 3 needles without stitches. Make the remaining rows until you have a total of 230 rows.

Cast off using waste yarn and a tapestry needle.

Assemble the Shawl

Make the other side and put both ends of the panels side by side to seam with Kitchener stitch.

Finish the Cuffs of the Shawl with Sleeves Pattern Sentro Knitting Machine

Use a tapestry needle to weave loose ends and clean up the edges of your shawl. If desired, you can add a decorative border using a crochet hook. I made a 2 x 1 ribbing by unravelling every 3rd stitch and remaking it on the Wrong side as a Knit stitch.
