1. What type of yarn works best with the ADDI/Sentro knitting machine?
Answer: Medium-weight (worsted) yarn is ideal for these knitting machines as it flows smoothly through the machine’s needles without causing jams. Yarn like acrylic or cotton blends also perform well.
So the one that I decided to buy was the 48 needles, and the reason why is because I could make bigger panels and create my own garments as well, here is the link for my Knitting machine Panel course, if making panels is hard for you.
2. Can I use bulky yarn with an ADDI or Sentro machine?
Answer: While it’s possible to use some bulky yarns, the machine may struggle, leading to tension issues or skipped stitches. It’s generally better to stick with worsted or DK-weight yarns.
So the yarns that didn’t work for me are the bulky yarns that recommend 7mm or 8mm needles on the tag, these are too thick for the machines and look too tight after made, it’s actually possible to use them but the result is not really good and you have to make it really slow, so you better make it manually.
Also, unfortunately, the Red Heart Super saver didn’t work really well, if you are careful and buy just the colors that are thinner and softer you can probably use them, so be aware of that. I have at home now 3 colors of it and only the white worked for me, it seems to be a bit softer!
Choosing the Right Yarn for ADDI/Sentro Knitting Machines
• Understanding Yarn Weight: Most ADDI and Sentro knitting machines work best with medium-weight yarns like worsted or DK. These yarns create an ideal tension for smooth, error-free knitting. The yarns that worked really well with all my machines, I have an Addi King, Sentro 48 and Sentro 40, are the ones that have 100gr and at least 200 m. The wool mixes worked even better because they are more soft than the acrylic ones.
• Fiber Composition: While you can use various fiber types, acrylic, polyamide, and wool blends tend to work the best. Stay away from cotton, but cotton blends like Cotton cakes are absolutely fine, as the acrylic mix makes the yarn more flexible.
• Gauge Matching: Using yarn that fits the machine’s needle size ensures that the tension and stretch of your final project are balanced and consistent.
Most circular knitting machines correspond to a 5 mm normal knitting needle, so you can also look for labels with this size.

How to Prevent Snags and Tangles with the Right Yarn
Even with the best yarn, machine knitting isn’t without its hiccups. Here’s how to keep your project snag-free.
• Use Smooth Yarns: The smoother the yarn, the less likely it will tangle or snag on the machine’s needles.
• Avoid Fuzzy Yarns: Yarn like scruby or eyelash yarns may look pretty, but they can easily get caught in the machine’s mechanisms.
• Check Yarn Tension: Incorrect tension can cause a messy knit or dropped stitches.
Conclusion on Best yarn for knitting machine
Picking the best yarn for knitting machine ADDI or Sentro can mean the difference between a smooth, enjoyable experience and a frustrating, jam-filled mess. Whether you’re crafting cozy hats, durable blankets, or lightweight tops, the yarn you use should complement your machine’s capabilities and your project needs.
Another type of yarn that didn’t work well was 100% cotton, and that’s exactly the one I was looking forward to using for summer clothes. I didn’t have a problem working on the Sentro machine with this yarn, but the end result wasn’t really good because the gaps in between the stitches were too big making it see through, so no go for any 100% cotton, but the blends were fine, so anything acrylic with cotton in a DK weight should work as well.
Worsted and DK weight yarn, especially in fibers like acrylic, polyester, or wool blends, will consistently give you the best results.
Here in this video I talk about types of yarns that I tried with the Sentro Machine and also the ones that didn’t work!
