If you’ve ever been at a party, juggling a plate of food, trying to greet people, and somehow keep your glass of wine safe, you’ll know the struggle is real. That’s why I decided to make this Wine Glass Lanyard on my circular knitting machine. It’s quick, cozy, and honestly just a fun conversation starter. I finished mine with a touch of gold yarn, which makes it perfect for holidays and festive gatherings.
I honestly didn’t expect that such a simple little tube would turn into something this fun and useful. The best part is how fast it comes together – in about 30 minutes you can have a festive, practical wine glass lanyard ready for parties, holidays, or even family gatherings. It’s one of those projects that looks impressive but takes almost no time at all.

How to Make the Wine Glass Lanyard
Cast on to work on tube mode using waste yarn, make 3 rows
Change to the main color Knit 18 rows in tube mode.

Cast off with a tapestry needle and another color of yarn after making a full row without yarn to release the stitches.

Crochet the edges – Work slip stitches around both the top and bottom for a clean finish.
- On the bottom side, place an elastic behind the stitches and crochet single crochet on top of it. This gives the holder stretch so the glass fits through but stays snug.
- On the other side, make a chain between the slip stitches to widen the opening for the base of the glass. Then, crochet a round of single crochet in your accent color (I chose gold for Christmas Eve). Close the round with a slip stitch.

Add straps – From the last Slip stitch, add another yarn tail with a slip knot and chain both together with a crochet hook. Attach them to the other side of the tube.

Optional sparkle – add a crochet heart like I did, or even a star or a pumpkin for festive days.
That’s it! Slip your wine glass into the tube, tie the straps around your neck, and you’ve got a cozy, hands-free wine glass holder.

Conclusion
This little wine glass lanyard or cozy is such a fun project to make, and it’s always a hit at parties. Mine looks extra special with the gold yarn I added – perfect for holidays, New Year’s Eve, or any celebration where you want to keep your hands free. Plus, it takes less than half an hour to make, so you can whip up a set for friends or party favors.
