Materials Needed for a Scrunchie Sentro 48 Pattern

To make your earbud pocket scrunchie, gather the following supplies:

  • Circular knitting machine (Sentro 48, Addi 46, or Sentro 40)
  • Worsted-weight yarn (acrylic or cotton works well)
  • Quilting cotton fabric (for lining or pouch insert)
  • Small zipper (approx. 10 cm / 4 inches)
  • Sewing needle and thread or sewing machine
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Thin elastic band

You’ll be making one tube with 24 rows on your machine. You can also do 20 rows if you want a slightly tighter scrunchie, but 24 is ideal to give a bit more room for your pocket.

Once the tube is done, you’ll insert the quilted fabric lining (with a small zipper) inside the center. The zipper pocket stays hidden when it’s in your hair but is easy to access when you wear it on your wrist or attach it to your bag.

The finished result? A fun and fast accessory that’s useful and adorable!

How I Made My Earbud Pocket Scrunchie

This project came together super quickly and easily on my Sentro 48, but you can totally do the same on an Addi 46 or Sentro 40, I’ll explain how I did it step by step.

  1. Start with 3 rows of waste yarn: This makes it way easier to remove the tube cleanly later and to finish the edges nicely. I used a high-contrast color so I wouldn’t get confused later when I remove it.
  2. Knit 20 to 24 rows with your main yarn: I personally prefer 24 rows—it gives a little more space inside for the earbud pocket. But if you’re making a smaller scrunchie or want it a little snugger, you can go with 20. Don’t stress about tension—circular knitting machines like Sentro and Addi don’t have real tension control, so just keep your yarn flow smooth and even while you crank.
  3. End with 3 rows of waste yarn again: Same reason as before: it helps you easily remove the piece and get clean edges.
  4. Crank 2 rows with no yarn: This step “drops” the piece off the machine. Once you’ve done those two empty cranks, your tube will slide right off—ready to be finished.

How I Did the Bind Off

I like a neat finish and didn’t want bulky seams, so here’s how I closed the ends:

  1. On one side, bind off 20 stitches using crochet Slip stitches. That leaves you a nice little opening, big enough to insert your pocket. I used a crochet hook and slipped stitch by stitch across just 20 sts, using the yarn tails I left before and after starting the tube on the circular knitting machine. Leave the remaining stitches open.
  2. On the other side, I did a mirrored closure: Instead of sewing, I BO the last remaining stitches by pulling one stitch into the opposite side’s stitch. It gives you a tidy finish without needing to go stitch-by-stitch with a needle. It’s a bit fiddly at first, but once you get the rhythm, it’s fast and clean. Start on the 1st stitch you BO for the pocket opening, going to the opposite side where you will pull the tail through the last loop.

How I Added the Earbud Pocket

Here’s my favourite part, it’s what makes this scrunchie different from any other!

I had already prepared a little quilted fabric pocket with a zipper:

  • First, I glued the fabric to the zipper and sewed the fabric pouch on the sides.
  • Once the pocket was ready and completely closed on all sides, I simply slipped it inside the scrunchie tube, right into the opening I left from binding off only 20 stitches.
  • Then, using a thread and a needle, I stitched the open edge of the scrunchie with the zipper and fabric edge, going carefully so it stayed hidden and tidy.

The result? A soft, stretchy tube with just the right amount of structure to hold your pocket inside and still be comfy in your hair or on your wrist.

FAQs: Scrunchie with earbud pocket Sentro Pattern

What type and weight of yarn is best for a Sentro scrunchie?

For a Sentro scrunchie (and your scrunchie with earbud pocket), the ideal yarn is worsted weight (#4 medium yarn). Users often recommend worsted or DK, while avoiding fuzzy yarns that can snag on the machine. Basically, worsted gives you the right balance of stretch and structure, perfect for a functional scrunchie!

How long does it take to make a Sentro scrunchie?

With circular knitting machines like the Sentro 48 or Addi 46, you can knit the tube in about 15–20 minutes, depending on your speed. Adding in assembly, edging, pocket insert, and zipper stitching may bring the total to under an hour. Making this scrunchie with an earbud pocket a fun and fast project.

Can I make a scrunchie with an earbud pocket using a Sentro 48 or Addi 46 machine?

Absolutely! This scrunchie with an earbud pocket was designed specifically for circular knitting machines like the Sentro 48, Addi 46, or even the Sentro 40. You knit a tube of 20–24 rows with main yarn (plus 3 rows of waste yarn on each side) and leave a small opening to insert your glued and zippered fabric pouch, then close it up neatly. It’s a fun and fast project that works great on all these machines.

How many rows do I need to knit a Sentro scrunchie with an earbud pocket?

To make the perfect Sentro scrunchie with an earbud pocket, knit 20 to 24 rows in your main worsted yarn. I recommend 24 rows for a slightly larger pocket, ideal for earbuds. Don’t worry about tension control; these knitting machines don’t allow much, so just crank evenly, and it’ll come out great.

Is this scrunchie with an earbud pocket machine washable?

Yes! Made with worsted yarn and quilting fabric, my earbud pocket scrunchie is machine-washable on a gentle cycle. Just zip the pocket closed and use a delicate mesh bag to protect the zipper. Lay dry flat to keep its shape.
