FAQ: Everything You’re Wondering Before You Start
Can I make this mermaid toy on a Sentro 48?
Nope — this pattern was made specifically for the 22-needle version because we want narrow tubes to shape the toy. The 48 would make the body too wide. Stick with your Sentro 22 or Addi Express 22.
Is this beginner-friendly to make a Mermaid toy on a Sentro 22?
Totally! If you know how to crank tubes and do simple hand embroidery, you’ve got this. The hardest part is choosing your yarn colors!

How long does it take to make a Mermaid toy on a Sentro 22?
About 2–3 hours from start to finish. It’s a perfect weekend project or even a two-part afternoon craft.
Can I sell the finished toys?
Yes, absolutely. As long as you credit the pattern creator (that’s me!). Handmade toys make lovely gifts or shop items.
How to Knit the Mermaid Tubes
To build the base of the mermaid, you’ll crank out several tube pieces on your circular knitting machine. Here’s the breakdown:
Mermaid Tube
Cast on using waste yarn and make 4 rows. Knit a tube of about a total of 50 rows.
Follow this sequence: 7 rows for the bottom tail, 16 for the tail, 12 + 7 body and face, 8 for the hair.
Bind off with a contrasting color of yarn and a tapestry needle.

Embroidery & Assembly: Bringing the Mermaid to Life
Here’s where the magic happens.
Before making this step, cinch the top part of the hair and add the stuffing for the head. Pass a yarn tail through the bottom of the face and close it for the neck. I added a little necklace as well using some gold yarn.

How to Make a Mermaid on a Sentro 22 Face
- Use black embroidery thread, yarn or black beads
- Stitch two sleepy eyes, a smile, or even add some blush with scrap yarn or fabric paint

Create the Bikini Top
- suff the body, filling it all the way down through the tail, but leave the very tip of the tail unstuffed
- Use your accent color yarn
- Crochet 6 chains and HDC for 3 rows
- Seam it or embroider directly onto the tube

Attach the Hair
- Loop yarn strands into the top of the head when you Make a Mermaid Toy on a Sentro 22
- Play with hair styles, I made mine with long big braid and little braids seamed on top

Shape the Tail Fin to Make a Mermaid Toy on a Sentro 22
- Close the bottom by pulling one stitch into another on the other side
- Pull the tail inside the last loop
- Add the stuffing before fully closing the piece, then shape it by seaming the middle using the yarn tail
Customise Your Mermaid
This is where your imagination gets to swim wild! Try:
- Pastel rainbow mermaids
- Dark-skinned mermaids with neon hair
- Mermaid princesses with crowns (use gold yarn!)
- Add a little starfish friend made with scraps!
