I was looking through Pinterest last week and I saw a few knitted Balaclava patterns and thought to myself, would it be possible to make a Balaclava pattern in a Sentro knitting machine? And the answer is YES…
Here are the images that I used as INSPO to make mine, which I’m going to wear only in 6 months because in Australia is summer now… I was sweating while making it, but I got so excited to try it that I had to…so here is how I made my Balaclava knitting machine pattern made with Sentro 48/Addi Express.
How long does it take to Knit a Balaclava on a Sentro knitting machine?
Spending about an hour on the knitting machine, I put together the entire pattern for the balaclava beanie. I went for the fur yarn linked below and experimented with my crochet hooks. And don’t worry, I tried the Fur yarn on my Sentro knitting machine and it was really hard to remove it because it stopped cranking after 2 rows, so don’t…..
What is the best yarn to knit a Balaclava Hat?
To knit this Balaclava I used only 1 skein of yarn with 200 m and there was some yarn left at the end, so around 80 gr of DK yarn. Because it’s only one layer you need to use a yarn with more weight.
To add a personal touch and extra warmth, I wrapped up the neck section with a cozy fur yarn.
It not only gives the beanie a nice finish but also makes it perfect for those super chilly winter days!
Material needed to knit a Balaclava beanie
I normally use around 3 mm hook to remove the yarn from the machine if needed and bigger hooks to crochet the fur yarn at the end just because this type of yarn is bulky. If you don’t have the Sentro knitting machine yet, I highly recommend, just click on the image to purchase it from the affiliate website, they have a good price and deliver fast!
For adult sizes, I highly recommend the Sentro 48 needles, for kids is best to use the Sentro 40 circular knitting machine.
How do I make my Balaclava knitting machine pattern?
I started using the tube mode, making around 40 rows (but I think 36 would be better).
Cast off 18 stitches with a tapestry needle and waste yarn, leaving the remaining stitches on the machine. I worked these st. on panel mode for 4 rows.
After making these rows I cast that 18 sts back on the needles and started working on tube mode again to make the neck of the Balaclava with 40 rows.
It’s all explained in the YouTube tutorial below.
